Objectives

As it has been mentioned above TAEHO had observed that albinos are plagued by poverty, deprivation, skin diseases, poor eye sight, stigmatization, lack of proper education and threat to their lives.

Four (4) categories of objectives namely economic, health, education and security objectives were thus formed for the purpose of solving the problems identified.


ECONOMIC OBJECTIVES

TAEHO has taken the initiative to persuade donors, the society at large and the albinos themselves to participate in what termed “The Albinos’ Economic Empowerment programme” The programme aims at empowering and pooling funds to training albinos in entrepreneurial skills, project management and the provision of start up capital.


HEALTH OBJECTIVES

The health objectives include:

  1. Ensuring that albinos living under poor conditions are provided with the necessary facilities for protecting their skin health. The facilities cover such items as sun block soap and lotion, spectacles glasses and caps/hats.
  2. Introducing mobile skin clinics which will reach albinos in the rural areas with the aim of curtailing the threat of skin cancer.
  3. Liaising with interested parties to set up a hospital specially dedicated to the treatment of skin related problems.
  4. To assist albinos who have been affected by serious skin diseases to avail appropriate care at referral/specialized hospitals.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

TAEHO is focusing on ensuring that all albino children are provided with good quality education for the betterment of their future generation by:

  1. Ensuring that all school age children are registered at the appropriate schools
  2. Sensitizing the parents of albino children to appreciate the importance of sending their children to school
  3. Setting up a mechanism for making a regular follow up on the attendance and academic performance of albino children
  4. Assisting the parents of albino children to meet all the educational expenses for their children. The expenses cover school fees, boarding fees, cost of books, pocket money and fare to and from the respective schools
  5. Providing vocational training to the albino youths who have not been able to make their way to college

SECURITY OBJECTIVES

Security related objectives are aimed at making the society at large and albinos in particular to be aware that albinos have the right to live just like any other human being. TAEHO will thus:

  1. Carry out an elaborate demographic study of all the albinos to ascertain wherw they are and what they are doing
  2. Participating in carrying out mass campaigns aimed at educating the society that being born albino is not a curse hence albino should not be stigmatized or treated in a cruel manner
  3. Sensitizing the society on the inherent weaknesses of the albino’s skin in order to avoid overexposing them to the sun
  4. Carrying out a vigorous campaign aimed at removing the myth that albino’s body parts can enable one to become rich or ascend to power
  5. Sensitizing the society to be vigilant and quick to report any suspected act of threat, cruelty, marginalization and stigmatization of albinos, to relevant authorities
  6. Ensuring that the society is adequately prepared psychologically to handle albinos with different difficulties
